I am pleased to announce Jonathan Porter will serve as our new Customer Service Center Director, which includes providing leadership for both residential call centers and the business call center. I am also pleased to announce that our Customer Service Centers will now be a part of our Energy Sales and Efficiency organization and Jonathan will report to Don Scivley, Vice President - Energy Sales & Efficiency.
Aligning our customer service centers with our Energy Sales and Efficiency organization will enable us to provide a higher level of customer support by combining the organization responsible for pro-active outreach to our customers with the centers responsible for successfully handling more than 6,000,000 customer inquiries a year.
Jonathan joined the company in 1991 and spent four summers as a Customer Accounting intern. He returned to Southern Company in 2000 as a senior recruiter for Gulf Power, Mississippi Power and Southern Nuclear. In 2001, he was promoted to Senior HR Business Representative supporting the APC Call Centers and became Customer Service supervisor in the Montgomery Call Center in 2004. In 2005 Jonathan became assistant manager of the Metro Central Business Office. In 2008, he was promoted to Lead HR Business Consultant responsible for leadership development, talent management and diversity. In 2009 he was named the Assistant to the Executive Vice President of External Affairs. In 2010 he was promoted to his most recent position of Birmingham Division Area Manager.
Integrally involved in the community, Jonathan is Board Chairman of PING (Partnership in Neighborhood Growth), Board member of Main Street Birmingham, Board member of the Jefferson County Education Foundation, Board member of the Jefferson County Economic & Industrial Authority, Board member of CAP (City Action Partnership), immediate past president of the American Association of Blacks in Energy Birmingham Chapter, among other leadership roles in the community.
Jonathan is a 2011 graduate of Leadership Birmingham, a graduate of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce’s Project Corporate Leadership program, graduate of the Alabama Power Company Leadership Development program, and past participant in the Alabama Leadership Initiative. A four-year football letterman at Tuskegee University, Jonathan graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration. He earned his MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Jonathan and his wife Yakima have two daughters, Laila and Kailyn.
