POSITION OVERVIEW
The Vice President of Electric Systems Engineering, Commercial Services and Aviation is responsible for the technical aspects of engineering, design and planning of transmission, and sub-transmission. She/he provides engineering, design construction and work standards for all facilities in the US, enabling FERC transmission, substation and distribution infrastructure improvements identified by distribution planning. This individual also ensures the division is complying with safety requirements and commercial service delivery while leading the provision of all aviation services to National Grid in the US.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide industry leadership for engineering design and system reliability, including system implementation, distribution and transmission data management
Establish partnership with jurisdictional leaders to ensure and support the understanding alignment with National Grid business priorities
Lead service delivery for transmission line, underground substation engineering and design for T&D, cyber protection and control engineering
Accountable for the development of energy technologies and integrations in liaison with the CTO, including energy storage, renewable energy
Develop SMART Grid strategy
Accountable for tracking, analyzing and reporting on asset performance, including managing system performance and the implementation of the improvement programs
Responsible for the US Aviation Group which includes company plane and transmission helicopter
Lead FERC transmission, substation and distribution infrastructure improvements
Invest in R&D programs to improve system performance that meets all state and regulatory, including National Grids AMS and ISO 55000
Work with other business leaders and UK counterparts to explore best practices and maintain transmission engineering standards
Provide professional development and training program for technical professionals
Implement a governance structure and deploy appropriate delegations of authority
Assemble and lead diverse and multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring optimum resource utilization
Leverage well established relationships with industry stakeholders to identify future trends
Build a strategic relationship with the customer and resolve complex customer issues using innovative solutions
QUALIFICATIONS
PE License and Bachelor’s degree required
MBA in an engineering, finance discipline preferred
SME in engineering, with technical expertise including testimony to regulatory bodies and due diligence activities
Energetic and enthusiastic technical and business leader with drive and ambition
Proven track record in providing strategic leadership and delivering changes, with strong transmission engineering and asset investment and management background
Ability to lead innovation and technical excellence, and establish a high level of confidence with internal senior management team, external leaders, regulators and politicians
Knowledge of national and local regulatory requirements on engineering system performance
