POSITION OVERVIEW
Consult and advise division leadership and the organization on designing, enhancing, and administering MISO’s Compliance Program. Lead and support various Internal Compliance Program activities and initiatives to assess and ensure MISO’s compliance with NERC, FERC, and other regulatory requirements and to enhance the MISO Compliance Program. Provide help to business partners across the organization on a variety of compliance-related issues.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide strategic and tactical advice to management on compliance program design and enhancements
• Collaboratively engage the compliance team(s) and business in activities to achieve the MISO corporate vision, mission, and objectives, and to foster a positive cultural foundation for good compliance practices
• Influence business outcomes by collaborating with stakeholders, colleagues, customers and team members to achieve business objectives
• Identify and support implementation of compliance program, framework, application, and process enhancements
• Understand MISO compliance governance requirements and identify, define, enhance, and execute new or existing process and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory and business requirements
• Support internal issue/event investigations, coordinate with process and issue owners, provide process and compliance recommendations, and support implementation of solutions and enhancements to meet business expectations
• Collaborate with MISO staff and other entities as needed to support the development of positions on standards under development and processes when submitting comments to NERC, FERC, NAESB, and other regulatory entities.
• Provide support in preparation for third party assessments of MISO compliance with NERC, FERC, and other regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrate energy industry specific knowledge and identify and anticipate business needs to meet business requirements
• Demonstrate the ability to present and explain technical/non-technical, and complex topics to diverse audiences
• Communicate cross-functionally to gain consensus - work diligently to build an understanding with balanced participation
• Effectively network, influence and problem solve to shape outcomes for the benefit of the organization
• Build relationships with the internal and external regulatory community to understand the current and future regulatory landscape
• Employ partnership and prioritization skills to manage customer/stakeholder expectations
• Maintain and share current knowledge of existing regulatory requirements to ensure compliance
• Transfer knowledge to inform, influence and shape decisions to benefit the organization
• Understand best practices relating to the industry, and whether/how to apply them to MISO’s business model, to enable efficient and effective process development, improvement, risk management, and compliance assurance
• Professionally exercise discretion to make timely recommendations and effectively solve problems, using independent judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and/or law
• Support and serve on internal and external committees, task forces and working groups as needed to ensure continuous process improvements are being made and business objectives are being met
• Represent MISO on compliance related topics in stakeholder meetings.
• Compliance with all processes, procedures, and standards applicable to the position including (but not limited to): SOC 1 (Service Organization Controls 1), CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection), Change Management, Tariff (Open Access Transmission, Energy and Operating Reserve Markets Tariff), FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and NAESB (North American Energy Standards Board)
• Complete all other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, law, or related field, (or 16 years of relevant work experience equivalency, required
• Master’s degree/Juris Doctorate degree, (preferred)
• Experience with design and enhancement of enterprise-wide compliance programs (required), for medium to large size companies in multi-state locations (preferred)
• Specific experience within any of the following: Compliance Standards Development, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Auditing (strongly preferred)
• Demonstrated experience serving as a trusted advisor to broad internal customer/stakeholder constituencies, including executive level management both inside and outside of direct reporting lines
• Previous energy industry experience (preferred)
• NERC certification (preferred)
• SCCE or other equivalent compliance professional certification(s) (preferred)
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge
