Gainesville Regional Utilities is seeking a Compliance Officer to oversee and coordinate Gainesville Regional Utilities’ (GRU) compliance program.
Gainesville Regional Utilities, known as GRU, is a multi-service utility owned by the City of Gainesville. We are the 5th largest municipal electric utility in Florida. Our combined services make us the most comprehensive utility service provider in the state. We serve approximately 90,000 retail and wholesale customers in Gainesville and surrounding areas, offering electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, and telecommunications services.

The successful candidate will report directly to the General Manager and will serve as a member of GRU’s Electric Operations and Planning Compliance Committee; evaluate and report on GRU’s ongoing and continuous compliance with all FERC, NERC, and FRCC standards and requirements for electric system reliability; anticipate, interpret and analyze the requirements of proposed or new FERC, NERC or FRCC reliability standards and requirements; coordinate utility-wide adaptation to the new standards and requirements; and make recommendations to upper management and presentations to governmental officials.
To be considered for this opportunityyou must have a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, finance, science or engineering and seven (7) years of experience in electric utility system planning or electric utility systems operations or engineering, or financial and government services, two (2) years of which must include supervisory or leadership experience, or have an equivalent combination of experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Professional and technical experience overseeing and coordinating compliance programs pursuant to FERC authority as implemented through NERC and FRCC standards and requirements for the planning, operation and maintenance of the bulk electrical system is preferred.
Certifications: NERC System Operator training and certification, preferred.
Notes:
- Must have full understanding of NERC standards, requirements, and the regulatory compliance process as applicable to Energy Supply, Energy Delivery, and Information Technology Departments.
- Knowledge of cyber and electrical systems to allow full understanding of NERC requirements as they relate to the operation, management, maintenance, reporting, and regulatory processes required to operate GRU’s electric system.
- Strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to interact collaboratively and productively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to articulate complex information and issues clearly and concisely.
This is professional and technical work overseeing and coordinating Gainesville Regional Utilities’ (GRU) compliance program pursuant to Federal Electric Regulatory Commission (FERC) authority as implemented through the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) standards and requirements for the planning, operation and maintenance of the bulk electrical system.
The single position allocated to this classification reports to the General Manager - Utilities. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its degree of specialized knowledge, consequences of error, and multi-departmental monitoring, coordination, and reporting requirements
