ConnectGen is seeking a Director, Pre-Construction and Procurement to provide hands-on leadership to a small team focused on pre-construction and procurement activities necessary to transition the Company’s contracted wind, solar and energy storage projects from late-stage development to construction readiness. The team also provides active support to the Company’s wider portfolio of earlier stage development projects to optimize layouts for constructability and cost, and supports projects in early stages of construction to ensure that key commitments and attributes, as well as design and execution parameters, are communicated to the construction team.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with internal stakeholders across a broad range of disciplines including development, finance, engineering, energy resource assessment, origination, interconnection, legal, and construction, to produce optimized project layouts and capex estimates
Create and continuously develop project estimating and budgeting tools
Lead informal and formal RFP processes for procurement of key contract scopes and major equipment, including developing scope of work, specifications, and other key documents; pre-qualification of vendors; and leading job walks and site visits
Develop cost databases, and general market analysis, to inform early budgeting exercises and define cost trends, including monitoring regional trends in costs of key materials, services, and equipment
Provide data and analysis to support technology selection for projects
Create indicative project schedules, and final construction schedule and cash flow profile
Manage contracting process with BOP/EPC contractors and major equipment suppliers
Manage geotechnical investigation work on development projects
Coordinate and manage installation logistics for company meteorological equipment
Other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
Strong inter-disciplinary communication skills, and ability to lead a small team, particularly in remote-working situations
Broad network of relationships with key contractors and vendors
Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project (and additional experience with PrimaVera is preferred
High motivation and passion to help create and efficiently deliver renewable energy projects
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong analytical and quantitative skills
Ability to multi-task in a high-pressure environment
Attention to detail
Ability to travel within North America by land or air, sometimes on short notice, and to visit prospective and active job sites (approximately 25% travel required)
Proficient in the English language
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction science, or a related field, or an equivalent blend of relevant professional training and experience
At least ten (10) years of relevant experience in in construction, with demonstrable experience in and knowledge of key practices and principles underpinning the construction of renewable energy projects
Proven experience in deploying utility-scale solar and energy storage is a plus
