Clean Energy Ventures, a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, is seeking a Director Solar Business Development to source renewable energy project investment opportunities in line with NJR strategy, targets and markets through origination of new greenfield sites, continued development of existing sites and/or lead the acquisition of new sites in key areas of growth. Develop and manage a pipeline of potential investments that meet NJRCEV's investment targets and criteria. Lead the effort to analyze and close transactions that meet or exceed annual investment targets. Support the project management team with development and construction-related issues to bring the projects to commercial operation.
Major Responsibilities:
• Meet annual development goals and targets
• Develop strategic plan and budget needs for development in target markets (Mid-Atlantic and New England) and continuously drive the completion of strategic milestones that will advance a project through the various stages of development
• Develop, advance and manage existing or new downstream solar projects including offtake, permitting, interconnection, land, community relations, stakeholder management and all related budgets
• Lead development efforts for greenfield, co-development and project acquisitions within targeted markets/sectors
• Manage cross-functional teams including legal, financial, project management and asset management resources to analyze and close transactions aligned with department goals
• Identify and develop partner relations with project developers, financial institutions, contractors, consultants, advisors, manufacturers and other market participants to maintain a project pipeline
• Manage all aspects of project development and acquisition including:
• Identify and secure suitable project sites, perform cost/feasibility analysis, pricing analysis, contract and concession agreement negotiations
• Negotiate land leases and easements, managing landowner relationships and collaborating closely with internal support teams
• Identify, manage and secure interconnection agreements while leading the overall interconnection strategy for a specific project or market area
• Secure permits required by local, county, state and federal jurisdictions, and managing community relations
• Obtain internal approvals to allow projects to advance, including preparing projects for Investment Committee approval and maintaining overall budget and schedule for project in compliance with approvals
• Communicate regularly with senior leadership on the state of the renewable energy markets and present investment opportunities
• Evaluate market drivers including new technologies, financial incentives, government/regulatory issues and business structures to continually grow the portfolio and maintain a competitive position in the industry
• Represent the Company at industry functions and regulatory meetings
Position Specifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering is required; MBA or related field preferred
• 10 or more years’ work experience in the energy industry
• Demonstrated success at leading teams
• Demonstrated experience in structuring and closing complex financial transactions
• Demonstrated track record of consistently sourcing and advancing projects through various stages of development to start of construction
• Strong fluency in solar project finance, contracts, utility interconnection, and construction/ EPC issues
• Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation and structuring
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated experience working with senior executives
• Advanced technical knowledge (e.g., familiarity with renewable technologies, power markets, legislation, regulatory issues)
• Proficient in use of MS Office and other office productivity tools
