Provide civil and structural engineering expertise to support operations, maintenance, and capital improvements at NYPA plants and facilities. Major practice areas include: structural analysis and design, building engineering, bridge engineering, dam engineering, geotechnical engineering, transmission engineering, pipe and equipment support design, and general civil engineering (storm water management systems, water supply, sanitary sewers, etc.). Specific skill requirements will depend on the practice area for which expertise is needed in the department.
Responsibilities
Independently evaluates, selects and adapts standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
Designs a complete project.
Prepares complete project documents.
Formulates and solves problems.
Interfaces with other disciplines and support groups to solidify project goals and achieve technically integrated deliverables.
Participates in multidisciplinary engineering projects of moderate to high complexity. Leads multidisciplinary engineering teams to complete basic projects.
Receives general direction on key objectives.
Receives guidance when necessary on unconventional or complex problems.
Assigns tasks to and directs work of designers, drafters and technicians.
Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
Interfaces with internal clients and stakeholders.
Assists with preparing scopes of work and requests for proposals for outside consultants.
Reviews work of outside consultants and other in-house engineers.
Inspects, plans, analyzes, designs, and prepares detailed construction drawings and specifications.
Prepares technical reports.
Provides engineering support during construction.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Master’s degree preferred.
Professional Engineer License, New York State preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in civil/structural engineering and design, preferably in utility industry.
Physical Requirements
Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State.
Ability to access all areas of the plant and conduct physical evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to climb and work at high elevations and in confined spaces, walk a significant distance, sometimes on uneven ground, and perform occasional minor lifting.
