Under general supervision, performs all types of mechanical, civil and structural construction, maintenance and repair work on project features including reservoir, concrete dams, powerhouse, appurtenant structures and buildings, with marine equipment and all fixed or movable machinery and other equipment. The work will require one or more skills such as mechanic, machinist, welder, ironworker, blacksmith, millwright, carpenter, crane operator, rigger, plumber, pipefitter, sheet metal worker, mason, painter and auto mechanic.
Measure, cut and thread pipe to specifications and drawings, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe cutters, and threading machines and benders. Use pipe grooving machines
Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications and drawings, by brazing, cementing, soldering, threading and/or other mechanical means such as compression or Victaulic fittings
Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, and tools
Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipe lines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment, following specifications and drawings and using hand and power tools.
Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded manholes or facility floors.
Specific tasks in the carpentry specialty include the following:
- Installing building and equipment foundations walls floors ceilings and roofs using materials such as: wood steel metal concrete plastics and composites of multiple materials including all rough framing form setting etc…
- Fitting and installing window frames doors door frames door hardware interior and exterior trim including finish carpentry
- Erecting scaffolding ladders for assembling structures above ground levels
- Reading/interpreting specifications and in blueprints sketches or building plans to perform project layout and determine dimensions and materials required
- Shaping or cutting materials to specified measurements using hand tools machines or power tools
- Following established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment
- Building or repairing and/or installing metal and wood cabinets doors frameworks floors or other wooden fixtures used in buildings using woodworking machines hand tools or power tools
- Removing damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace using hand or power tools
- Inspecting ceiling or floor tile wall coverings siding glass or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures
- Install floor coverings such as carpet resilient tile or sheet goods including surface preparation.
- Performing construction layout from drawings using builder’s level transit or laser equipment.
- Ability to install repair maintain finish builders hardware including but not limited to doors and frames (all material type) closure devices hinges exit (panic) devices locks and latch sets cylinder cores etc…
- Installing metal studs drywall ceilings and other acoustic materials
- All other work associated with the carpentry trade
- Ability and aptitude to work on mechanical equipment at the Niagara Project
- General Millwright work including but not limited to equipment setting and rigging developing rigging plans selecting rigging etc…
