Principal Mechanical Engineer Energy Storage Program Lead
Job Overview:
The Principal Engineer directs project teams to design, build, and test products and is responsible for the technical rigor of their projects and ensuring they stay on track. The Principal Engineer is also responsible for assisting with engineering efforts in business development. This is a management role and reports to the CTO.
Education, Experience, Skills:
· BS with 8 years of experience, MS with 6 years of experience, or PhD with 4 years of experience is required
· Minimum of 2 years of experience managing engineering teams is required
· Professional Licensure is a plus but not required
· Experience with thermal energy storage technologies, for example tube-in-concrete, packed bed, molten salt, or falling sand is strongly preferred
· Experience managing government or NGO projects is a plus but not required
· Energy sector knowledge strongly preferred, power plant knowledge a plus
· Experience working on R&D pilot projects is a plus
Essential Responsibilities:
· Lead technical development for assigned team
o Ensuring the project’s compliance with applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications
o Create and maintain concise technical documentation
o Direct tasking priorities for project team, utilizing help from Program Manager
· Work with CTO to create technical development plans, and lead execution of those plans
· Lead techno-economic analysis of energy storage systems
· Perform a variety of engineering tasks including design, analysis, material selection, building, testing and validation
· Work with Chief Engineer to select appropriate methods of analytical modeling/analysis for your team to use
· Mentor more junior engineers, managing assignments of team members to their specific project
General Requirements:
· Full time, salaried exempt employee
· Maintains a standard schedule of 40+ hours per week
· Travel to meetings and conferences may be required
