Are you a dynamic engineer with turbine and boiler thermodynamic cycles experience, seeking your next challenge?
Make a difference! Join our team of technical experts in the Equipment Performance Testing Section (EPTS) of the Engineering Services Department (ESD), where your expertise is highly valued at our generating facilities in Michigan and to the engineering projects within Consumers Energy. We’ll rely on your advanced technical and problem-solving skills as you analyze, performance test and assist plant personnel maintain turbines, feedwater heaters, condensers, pumps, boilers, fans, air heaters, coal pulverizers and air quality equipment.
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Conducting thermodynamic computer modeling and cycle analysis with the Syntha 2000 software
- Thoroughly learning the roles and responsibilities of maintaining the hardware, software, and communications of our on-line heat rate system, to eventually allocate 50% of your time in this capacity
- Performing periodic boiler tuning for optimum combustion, emissions, and SCR performance
- Providing oversight, periodic quality control audits, and assisting Plant personnel with various problem solving situations
Qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Professional Engineer license is preferred
- 3+ years of plant experience in plant performance is desired
- A good understanding of power plants with a fairly good understanding of thermodynamics cycles and calculations
- Strong communication skills with ability to develop good working relationships, especially with our generating plant customers
- Proficiency at complex VBA macro programming, especially for MS Excel
- Availability for 25% travel to facilities throughout Michigan, including overnight and extended stays
The desired position location will be in Jackson, MI, but consideration will be given to alternative locations of Essexville or West Olive, MI.
