Managing Director - Campaigns

 The Coalition for Community Solar Access (“CCSA”) is a growing organization working to open, protect, and expand markets for community solar across the country. We are seeking qualified applicants for a Managing Director to serve as organizational lead for all CCSA campaigns and personnel manager for CCSA campaign staff.  The anticipated start date for this position is immediate.

The Managing Director will manage all CCSA campaign staff, and campaigns to achieve CCSA market goals and meet organizational Core Principles.

The Managing Director will also manage stakeholder engagement and program development.  CCSA sees its relationship with its core allies as critical to achieving its market goals and is putting special emphasis on further cultivating partnership and working relationships with environmental/climate, environmental justice and equity, and customer groups.  The Managing Director will be critical to managing and executing partnership and program development in these areas.

The Managing Director will also support the Executive Director in managing short and long-term organizational planning and executive engagement through CCSA’s Board.

Ideal candidates will have strong management and policy experience, and ideally with electricity sector experience.  The candidate must be also able to provide thought leadership and have the ability to represent the organization and industry in public arenas. CCSA is very much a team environment and seeks to support public leadership of all staff, and would especially support opportunities for the Managing Director to serve as voice for the industry.

The Managing Director will report to CCSA’s Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Strong management ability and experience, including ability to manage remote team, working across multiple time zones
  • Ability to effectively guide campaign staff to achieve specific market goals and implement strategy to execute on them
  • Ability to effectively manage coalitions of stakeholders across multiple industries
  • Ability to navigate complex legislative and regulatory policymaking and concepts
  • Ability to co-lead thought leadership development and ability to represent the organization and industry in public arenas
  • Track record of winning campaigns

Responsibilities:

  • Manage CCSA campaign staff and external campaigns across all priority markets
  • Provide input and coordination to CCSA campaigns into Local Solar for All coalition with various stakeholders and execute on campaign strategy
  • Represent CCSA at in person and virtual stakeholder and industry events
  • Interface with external stakeholders including allied industry organizations and NGO's to advance CCSA's policy goals
  • Provide input into short and long-term planning for industry and organization

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10+ years experience in state energy policy matters, advocacy strategy and implementation
  • Minimum 5+ years management experience
  • Potential for ~30% travel requirement to stakeholder meetings
  • Comfort with electricity market dynamics, with focus on solar energy policy (preferred)
  • Self-starter, with strong political instincts, and ability to work remotely and while traveling

Location:

  • Remote - Prefer location that enables affordable, efficient travel– either centrally located or near a major transit hub
  • Flexible worksite - e.g. home or shared worksite.

  • Encourage transparent, non-discriminatory utility rules on siting, and interconnecting projects, and collaboration with utilities to facilitate efficient siting and interconnection.
  • Ensure that community solar projects are operated and maintained well to protect customers and providers’ investment.
  • Ensure full and accurate disclosure of customer benefits and risks in a standard, comparable manner that presents customers with performance and cost transparency.
  • Comply with applicable securities, tax, and consumer protection laws to reduce customer risk and protect the customer.
  • Maintain a 360-degree view of the community solar market and ensure a beneficial role for all parties in the partnerships forged between subscriber, provider, and utility.
