Communications Director

 This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day internal and external communications functions for INGAA and the INGAA Foundation.  Incumbent will serve as the primary media contact and is responsible for the public communications function of both organizations.  Incumbent will identify and implement strategies for promoting the interests of the interstate natural gas pipeline industry.  Incumbent will also oversee communications to INGAA member company representatives engaged with the organization.  Incumbent be a shared employee between INGAA and the INGAA Foundation fostering greater transparency and alignment between the two organizations.

 

Here is what you will be doing:

 

·       Develops and maintains familiarity with the interstate natural gas pipeline industry and the positions of INGAA on public policy (i.e., legislative and regulatory) issues affecting the industry.

·       Primary responsibility for planning and executing public communications programs to communicate pipeline industry positions to related industry groups, media, member companies, government and the public.

·       Works with other INGAA departments to develop content (fact sheets, press releases, summaries, infographics, etc.) and messaging around key policy areas. 

·       Manage INGAA’s Communications Committee.  Coordinates with member company chair of the INGAA Communications Committee to maintain priorities and collaboration with committee members.

·       Works to establish higher profile for INGAA and the INGAA Foundation with the media and among other stakeholders. Where appropriate, works in coordination with counterparts at other Natural Gas Council trade associations and similar organizations.

·       Primary responsibility for content and management of INGAA’s publicly facing outlets, including the INGAA website and its social media channels, such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

·       Prepares summary materials for INGAA Foundation studies and reports and develops/implements strategies for public release of these materials.

·       Contributes to the development of INGAA Foundation research topics and INGAA positions to promote and protect pipeline industry interests.

·       Assists in developing analyses and other materials to support legislative and regulatory positions through a combination of original research, surveys and analysis.

·       Organizes media, drafts documents, writings, presentations, and other training materials for staff.

·       Reviews regulatory comments, legislative testimony, advocacy material and other internal and external documents for clarity and public consumption.

·       Works with executives and subject matter experts to develop, manage, and review materials and messaging for executive speeches, presentations, and board meetings.  

·       Keeps staff abreast of important media stories affecting the natural gas pipeline industry.

·       Provides primary support for organizing and executing INGAA meetings that have a public focus.

·       Works with other INGAA departments to develop and manage communications to INGAA and INGAA Foundation Board members, and other member company employees engaged with the associations.

·       Manages outside communications consultants and budget requirements.

 

 

Here is what you need to know:

 

Education:

·       College degree in communications, marketing or related discipline

 

Work Experience:

·       Must have 6 plus years of communications, public relations or related experience preferably with the energy industry.  Experience with natural gas pipeline regulation or FERC a plus.

·       Prior trade association experience preferred

·       Must have experience managing digital content

·       Experience managing grassroots outreach programs preferred

·       Proficiency with Microsoft Office

 

 

 

Skills:

·       Excellent verbal and written communications skills

·       Copy editing abilities

·       Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies and social media platforms

·       Experience with search engine marketing, Google Analytics, and Google AdWords

·       Familiarity with social media marketing

·       Working knowledge of content management systems, HTML, coding, and digital marketing

·       Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign)
