Reporting to the Vice President -- People and Culture, the Director of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) collaboratively leads SDG&E's efforts to advance an inclusive workplace. Designs and enhances D&I programs to have clear goals and concrete, proactive measures based on best practice principles. Provides consulting, training and coaching for leaders and employees around diversity, equity and inclusion, as broadly defined. Supports executive D&I initiatives, including reporting and communications about those initiatives. Also responsible for developing and implementing the broader employee communications strategy to support the company's business objectives and goals.

 

Diversity & Inclusion

  • Establish mission, goals, key performance metrics, governance, budget and oversight for all D&I programs in accordance with best practices and benchmarks
  • In collaboration with People and Culture leadership, support the design and promotion of programs to recruit, retain, and develop diverse talent.
  • Oversee data collection, analyses and organizational assessments to identify enablers and potential inhibitors of a diverse, inclusive and equitable work environment, including linkages with and impacts on consequential external stakeholders.
  • Support EEO investigations including providing support to business leaders and HR Business Partners in diagnosing D&I related issues, recommending potential solutions and executing or supporting organizational interventions for various business departments/functions.
  • Work with enterprise D&I leadership and D&I councils and organizations to maximize resources and programs across the enterprise. Partner with stakeholders to invest in and develop D&I council leaders and members and provide ongoing governance, evaluation and benchmarking of council performance in meeting the Company's needs.
  • Research emerging issues and trends, legislation, court decisions, professional literature, and political and grass-roots movements related to diversity and inclusion, including communication protocols and best practices for transparency.
  • Partner with Human Resources on the Affirmative Action planning and reporting process.
  • Formulate and advance a broader engagement strategy that continues to foster a culture of equity and inclusion across the company.
Employee Communications
  • Establish objectives and direct more broadly the employee communications team who implements internal communications plans in support of company initiatives.
  • Develop key messages to a wide variety of audiences in clear language, using a variety of communications tactics.
  • Establish performance expectations and goals aligned with Company objectives, policies and procedures. Manages employee performance for both direct and/or matrixed reports.
  • Manages, trains and develops staff by providing direction, timely feedback, coaching and support. 
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Behavior or another relevant field required.
  • 12 years of experience in human resources, diversity and inclusion, community outreach, or other relevant disciplines, including 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to motivate employees, drive innovation and lead change initiatives while maintaining employee engagement.
  • Excellent diplomatic and articulate writing, spoken, presentation and oral communications required.
  • Communications planning and project management skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Equal Employment Opportunity law and OFCCP, including investigative abilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other HR disciplines (benefits, sourcing, outreach, recruiting, employee and leadership development, workforce planning, etc.).
  • Fundamental understanding of business strategy and how to link D&I and HR initiatives to business activities. A strong consultant with demonstrated ability to understand business requirements and turn that analysis into actionable solutions.
  • Collaborative work approach with ability to work across lines of businesses and levels garnering cross-functional program support various stakeholders.
  • Action orientation, superior attention to detail, project management and organizational skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree or PHR/SPHR a plus.
  • Experience in employee communications preferred.
