The Opportunity

The Manager for Enel North America’s Regulatory Affairs team will support all Enel North America business and product lines to protect, optimize and advance the company’s commercial and sustainability goals. The role will focus primarily on the Mid-Atlantic/Midwest regions, with the opportunity to expand or change geographic coverage as business needs, or professional development opportunities, arise. Enel NA’s presence in, and growth objectives for, these regions requires a Manager of Regulatory Affairs to support those business interests with strategic advocacy, furthering the most advantageous position across the North American Enel businesses, while minimizing regulatory risk.  The Manager will support and engage in RTO/ISO wholesale market coverage, state regulatory energy market proceedings, and select legislative proceedings to achieve Enel North America’s objectives in priority markets.  The Manager will identify market opportunities and risks to Regulatory Affairs leadership and relevant business lines, and maintain frequent communication with key internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with commercial priorities, to support external activity and engagement.

 The Manager of Regulatory Affairs will report to the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs, Eastern Region, Enel North America, and will represent the interests of all North America business lines- Enel X, Enel Trading, and Enel Power Generation (Enel Green Power North America).

Responsibilities
  • Engage in key state and federal regulatory dockets and stakeholder processes and select state legislative proceedings to advocate for new energy market opportunities for Enel and to protect or strengthen existing energy market opportunities for Enel North America
  • Identify and track retail and wholesale energy market issues within the Mid-Atlantic/Midwest region that are material to existing or planned assets/investments
  • Support regulatory affairs leadership in developing Enel internal position development across business lines, coordination among external allies, and stakeholder process engagement on matters including but not limited to renewable asset development and management, demand side issues (including DR and e-mobility),  and battery storage development
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for regulatory/legislative changes that increase the profitability of existing assets or create new revenue or market opportunities for new assets/investments
  • Coordinate with the Institutional Affairs department to leverage institutional relationships to increase energy market opportunities that will enhance or grow Enel’s businesses
  • Maintain regular two-way communications with internal customers, communicating key market trends and providing insightful and timely research to relevant business lines to inform commercial strategy, and soliciting frequent updates from business lines on their commercial priorities
  • Work with the Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs to prioritize and develop integrated advocacy strategies that optimize competing interests and serve multiple business lines
  • Represent Enel and its interests before a broad range of markets, market participants, stakeholders, and policymakers in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Help build Enel’s presence and reputation as a sophisticated and trustworthy participant in regulatory/legislative arena
  • Draft comments in response to regulatory proposals
 

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience working within the energy industry or working with executive and legislative branches of State/Federal government
  • Bachelor's degree required, Advanced degree preferred
  • Willingness to travel in the U.S. mostly Mid-Atlantic/Midwest Region
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with keen attention to detail
  • Track record of collaboration and/or demonstrated ability to connect energy policy position to commercial opportunities
  • Superb interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Computer proficiency, including strong capabilities with PowerPoint
