 WHO WE ARE

We change the landscape of what is possible with batteries. Our technology is a new chemistry that increases the energy density of Li-Ion batteries, which enables more features and design options for consumer devices and longer range, higher performance, and greater affordability for electric vehicles. Our product works today, drops into existing battery manufacturing processes, and is manufacturable economically at scale.

We believe how we work together is as important as the great things we accomplish. Foundational to this belief is building an inclusive and distinctive culture – one that is collectively shaped and owned by all Silazens. Learn more about our values here.

WHO YOU ARE

You’re a hands-on engineer with an aptitude for uptime. You thrive on deciphering complicated problems by digging deep into data, getting to root causes, and keeping meticulous records. You engineer for keeps; your work product is robust and enduring. You’re a skilled listener and communicator, which helps you interface with a wide range of people throughout the company. You’re flexible and keep your cool under time pressure. All the details matter in our industry, so your attention to detail in this role will be essential. To you, success is a machine that runs so reliably that people would forget how to debug it, except you thoroughly documented how to debug it. This role will draw on your ability to understand, troubleshoot, and upgrade first-of-their-kind reactors that operate in 24/7 production. You’ll engage with Sila’s whole stack of custom mechanical, electronic, software, and facility systems. You’ll work hand-in-hand with our production team, equipment engineers, process engineers, software developers, and contractors to make our production lines more reliable and deterministic.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Support Sila’s production machines by diagnosing problems when they arise and fixing them responsively. This will include data mining and in-person discussions with the people who identify problems.
  • Deliver high-quality upgrades to machines that improve uptime, increase line throughput, fix design problems, and ensure safety. This will include mechanical, electronic, and plumbing design.
  • Be a standard-bearer for organization, robust documentation, safety, and scalability. Close loops. Create enduring records of your work.
  • Deliver completed projects to spec down to the smallest detail, whether performed internally or by a managed contractor. Predict accurate task and project schedules to ensure line uptime.
  • Develop robust re-qual and commissioning tests for machines and document them rigorously.
  • Responsively coordinate. Bridge the gap between operations and engineering, working closely with technicians and line operators. Communicate seamlessly between the Manufacturing and Equipment groups.
  • Ensure successful handoff to downstream users of your team’s work with well-managed and clearly-documented procedures.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in engineering and at least 3 years of industry experience.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design and CAD software tools (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred).
  • Knowledge of AC and DC power fundamentals, sensor/signal troubleshooting, and field wiring best practices.
  • Experience with complex, multidisciplinary technical systems (for instance: interconnected electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems).
  • Strong documentation and revision control skills. Experience generating durable document packages for design, internal SOPs, and qualification of machines after upgrades.
  • Diplomacy, great communication skills (written and verbal), and able to surface problems constructively.
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical & mechanical design, especially involving unique and challenging safety requirements, gas/liquid plumbing, and specialized HVAC would be nice.
  • Experience in industrial or manufacturing settings with firm requirements for safety, uptime, and operational excellence would be nice.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
  • Occasional mechanical assembly and disassembly of components
  • This role may require routine on-call support during nights and weekends
