Role Overview
We are seeking an energy storage systems executive to head our efforts for both the technical and commercial aspects in the developing discipline of energy storage for Apex Clean Energy. This is an exciting opportunity to execute on a business plan that affirms the Apex brand in the energy storage systems space.
We are seeking a driven, passionate, experienced executive to help Apex establish our storage team and expand our abilities to deliver our broad expertise to new and developing energy markets. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and collaborating with and educating an interdisciplinary team, you will help position Apex to develop tailored energy storage solutions across most ISO/RTO regions while delivering objective solutions for measurable cost savings and sustainable roadmaps for energy storage systems.
Our ideal team member is a creative and goal-oriented energy storage expert, with a proven track record for strategy, market analysis, design, execution and delivery of innovative and professional projects. As a senior member of the team you will also provide oversight for projects and team creation and management.
Primary Responsibilities
· Develop and lead implementation of the Apex company strategy for deployment of energy storage systems (ESS) with its portfolio of utility scale and distributed wind and solar energy assets across most ISO/RTO regions in the United States.
· Determine and communicate highest-value use cases to customers through competitive RFPs and bilateral discussions and presentations.
· Design the use-case and provide cost estimates for ESS systems to support proposals to customers.
· Consult the Apex commercial team on modeling assumptions, including revenue, CAPEX, OPEX, and sources of capital for ESS systems. Support transactional process as a technical expert.
· Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and procure equipment and other contracts.
· Support the Project Management and Asset Management teams as needed to ensure quality control of facilities and delivered services.
· Maintain a strong network of industry related contacts for the purpose of expanding storage opportunities and services.
Success Profile
To succeed as our Vice President of Energy Storage at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria:
· Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred).
· Demonstrated mix of strong commercial and technical experience along with leadership and management skills that can support the growth of a standalone business integrated with and supporting the core generation business.
· Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, inclusive of five years of grid connected ESS and inverter-based generation experience.
· Proven experience and success in leading or closely supporting the design, commercialization, and financing of grid scale ESS technology solutions for both stand-alone and hybrid projects.
· Knowledge of and ability to communicate sources of revenue from ISO/RTO markets, utility and C&I offtake agreements, and federal, state, and local incentive programs for stand-alone and hybrid BES systems.
· Established relationships with key vendors and other industry participants.
· Experience with technoeconomic modeling is a plus.
· Excellent communicator representing Apex’s storage business and capabilities internally and externally.
