Vice President of Operations

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties.

REC is seeking a Vice President of Operations in our Fredericksburg office. The Vice President of Operations will provide leadership and oversight to the engineering and regional operations portion of the business. This position will collaborate and coordinate with strategic and tactical leadership in such a manner that the best interests of the Cooperative are served, both in the short and long term.

Role and Responsibilities
· Ensures that the functions of engineering and regional operations support the successful accomplishment of the Cooperative’s Strategic Plan.
· Provides a level of leadership that will be readily accepted, encourage action, and produce accountability throughout the Cooperative.
· Collaborates with the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Vice President of Engineering, Operations and Power Supply, the Vice President of Corporate Services and Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Vice President of Member and External Relations, and the Tactical Management Group on all matters concerning conditions of the Cooperative to ensure that common objectives are met.
· Dedicates considerable time and effort to external activities in order to further the strategic initiative of the Cooperative.
· Serves as a member of the Strategic management groups.
· Maintains and promotes good member and public relations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor Degree in related fields required and post graduate experience or degree preferred. Must hold, or be able to obtain within 18 months, a Virginia Professional Engineering (PE) certification. Must be knowledgeable of engineering, electric operations and construction, material specifications, and safety. Must hold a valid driver’s license. The ideal candidate will have senior level management experience with an electric utility. Preference will be given to those candidates with Cooperative utility experience. Must possess 10 years of progressively responsible experience with 5 years in functional senior management.

Must have demonstrated management and leadership abilities. Must be able to communicate effectively both inside and outside of the organization. Must be a strategic planner with the ability to execute plans. Perform other duties as assigned. Mostly office work in the Fredericksburg Office, with regular trips to the Eastern and Western Regions. Regular travel to Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, Virginia, Maryland, & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives, and other Cooperatives. Out of town travel to seminars and conferences can be expected.
