Gainesville Regional Utilities' (GRU) is seeking an Electrical Utility Environmental Engineer IV/ Utility Designer IV (Electrical Engineer) to assist in analyzing work and coordinating utility environmental matters associated with planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of electric facilities.
Engineer IV/ Utility Designer IV will work as a utility liaison with governmental agencies, industry, and local and regional planning and environmental groups; initiate and coordinate ecological studies and assist management in answering questions related to environmental impact on proposed and present electric utility projects, operating practices, and regulations; in addition to acting together with industry and governmental bodies to develop appropriate environmental controls and regulations. As an environmental engineer will assist management in developing and maintaining sound environmental practice in electric utility planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance and keep management informed of current environmental regulations and rules and advises those involved with rule making and legislation of utility concerns.
To be considered for the Engineer IV level you must possess Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited educational institution.

Six (6) years of experience in the area of assigned engineering responsibility. Appropriate co-op time and/or an advanced degree in engineering, business or other relevant courses (e.g. planning, public administration, etc.) of study may be recognized for up to one year of experience.
You are expected to keep abreast of the latest Engineering advancements in field. Continuing education is required to maintain currency in assigned engineering discipline, regulatory and other related knowledge. You must possess a valid state driver's license at the time of hire and a valid State of Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire. A State or Florida Professional Engineer license is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with elected officials, charter officers, department heads, representatives of other agencies, other city employees, and the general public.
