Reliability Engineer

General Information
Reporting to the Manager of Compression West, this position is responsible for providing engineering support to Operations field teams, engineering department, construction, and management to ensure the safety and reliability of natural gas compression facilities and prime movers; and for providing support for the proper design, construction, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems for compressor stations and related facilities.

This position is in Redmond, Oregon and will primarily provide support to the GTN and Northern Borders pipeline systems. These pipelines are equipped with various models of Solar and Rolls Royce gas turbines utilized for gas compression. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the installed equipment as well the operation and maintenance of natural gas compression facilities. The position provides support to all mechanical equipment within the compressor station.

*This position is eligible for domestic relocation.*

Responsibilities
Reactive Maintenance: Reliability Engineers are engaged and provide support on day to day issues at their assigned compressor stations;
Provide sound engineered and cost-effective solutions to urgent problems such as: Compressor startup problems
Compressor shutdowns/faults
Coolant or oil contamination
Capacity deficiencies
Gas conditioning drip gas, water, dirt ingestion
Station piping problems (support, vibration, excessive pressure drop, etc.)
Auxiliary system malfunctions (including ESD)
Identify, scope, estimate and engineer break fix projects to repair failed systems, machines and/or components;
Identify, scope, estimate and engineer Capital and maintenance projects to provide long term solutions for facility defects and systemic issues;
Provide diagnosis, support repairs and perform the root cause analysis for significant failures and Abnormal Operation events;
Provide operational and maintenance recommendations based on: Oil and coolant analysis
Equipment Analyst performance and vibration threat results
Enterprise Analytics notifications (remote condition monitoring system)
Conduct borescope inspections and vibration testing
Verify adequate capacity of pressure limiting and overpressure protection devices;
Provide code interpretation services or coordinate same for issues and installations at compressor stations;
Assist with PHMSA audit preparation and response;
Provide support for facility audits to insure compliance with Company Standards, Policies and Procedures, and governmental and industry codes;
Design Standard development;
Operations Supplement development;
Provide expert witness testimony in various forums regarding compressor operation and engineering issues;
Provide facility expertise throughout the project scoping and design process including participation at 30%, 50% and 70% design reviews;
Technical support for project team during facility construction and commissioning activities;
Approve pipeline test data reports;
Provide spare parts requirements;
Perform gas loss calculations;
Develop project specific blow down and purge plans;
Provide subject specific on-the-job training;
Provide compressor related information/data to a wide variety of stakeholders;
Provide mentoring for the field teams in accordance with the established procedures of the Technician Qualification and Operator Qualification (OQ) programs; may include performing Operator Qualification evaluations;
Other tasks as required.


Qualifications and Education

Qualifications:
Have demonstrated a focus on safety;
Must be able to handle rapidly shifting priorities and multiple projects concurrently, requiring resolution of complex problems in stressful situations;
Ability and initiative to work independently, display creativity, and exercise sound judgment;
Demonstrated superior organizational skills and proven ability to manage projects;
Must possess effective analytical skills;
Must possess human relations skills to effectively operate in a team-oriented environment with a willingness to support team objectives;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work closely with field teams and Management, and coordinate work with other appropriate technical resources;
Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.


Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering;
Minimum of 6 years industry experience, preferred;
In-depth knowledge of gas turbines, gas compression facilities.


Additional Information:
Hold and maintain a valid drivers license;
Subject to hazardous conditions including escaping gas, adverse weather, heights, lifting, and cramped conditions;
Subject to callout 24/7, and extended workdays/work weeks with considerable travel often requiring overnight stays;
This position is eligible for domestic relocation;
This position is not eligible for cross border relocation;
