This position is responsible for directing gas engineering and gas system planning activities to support Gas Distribution Operations and other lines of business utilizing natural gas facilities. Responsibilities include overseeing system planning and risk analysis and developing short and long-term system enhancement plans for improving the integrity of the natural gas system. Responsibilities also include supporting new business residential and commercial economic development. Other responsibilities include working with other departments in GDO to develop operating standards and to ensure that design, engineering and construction for projects assigned to the Gas Engineering group are completed based on sound operating principals and best practices as well as ensuring compliance with all established local, state, federal regulations related to operation of gas assets.
Ten or more years of gas distribution operations experience or equivalent work experience. Demonstrated knowledge of gas distribution operations work processes, practices, and engineering principals. Bachelor of science degree in engineering. Master of Business Administration, Master of Engineering, and/or Professional Engineer License would be preferable.
High degree of leadership skills that has been consistently demonstrated. Excellent interpersonal and team building skills, strong planning and organizational skills, and solid communication skills. Sound technical awareness along with the ability to analyze and solve problems from both engineering and business perspectives. Ability to balance action and information seeking. High level of external awareness of industry practices and trends. Achievement oriented with ability to strike appropriate balance between risk and reward when making business decisions.
Responsible for Gas Regulatory Compliance activities including, but not limited to... Developing uniform gas operating policies that ensure consistency and compliance with regulatory requirements and conduct reviews annually to ensure compliance Conduct annual regulatory reviews and document compliance with state and federal requirements Complete annual technical review of LG&E's plastic and steel welding manuals and other documents as assigned Responsible for administering the LG&E welding program including the initial qualification and semi-annual requalification of welders performing work on the LG&E system. Responsible for developing and maintaining Gas Construction Standards. Responsible for the completion of required annual review of regulator and relief capacities and identifying inadequate protection so it can be addressed. Responsible to oversee System Planning functions for LG&E's gas system utilizing system planning software including maintaining a complete model of the system, new commercial and industrial load requests, sizing mains and regulators for extensions, feasibility studies, requests from major accounts/economic development, shutdown requests and perform and annual winter operations analysis. Provide operational support through supervisory and on call support and provide engineering support for operational initiatives. Provide technical support and direction to gas engineers, operating personnel, and maintenance personnel based on extensive acquired knowledge. Responsible for Project Engineering and Management for major capital, new business and commercial economic development projects as assigned to the group. Includes, but not limited to... Project Design and engineering support during construction Project Management including bid specifications, contractor selection, permit procurement, material procurement, field construction support and project financials. Responsible for material management through helping to oversee the pipe, valve and fitting contract, participate in Gas Material Committee meetings and provide support for reviewing and updating material inventory descriptions, items and master approved list. Participate in professional and industry organizations. Effectively communicates with senior management, customers, and employees, both verbally and in writing. May represent the company or provide support in regulatory and legal proceedings as required. Perform other duties as assigned by Director, Gas Construction, Operations and Engineering.
