POSITION OVERVIEW

Contribute to the strategic direction of the organization by providing legal counsel and support in federal and state regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters, including FERC and NERC, as well as providing corporate legal support for finance, contracts, audits, special projects, and other matters. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Examine, interpret, and advise on laws, rulings, regulations, orders, standards, and requirements, particularly those relating to FERC and NERC

·        Review, analyze, and investigate legal implications with respect to business decisions and events

·        Provide leadership, strategic advice, business counseling, and expertise, particularly with respect to FERC and NERC, for internal legal resources and business partners to assist in addressing and solving legal, regulatory, and compliance issues

·        Identify regulatory or external customer/stakeholder issues, particularly with respect to FERC and NERC, and proactively develop MISO positions in order to work with teams (including cross functional teams) to achieve desired results

·        Advocate on behalf of MISO within regulatory and/or stakeholder committees and groups.

·        Prepare tariff amendments, contracts, service agreements, testimony, briefs, arguments, pleadings and other legal documents

·        Represent MISO before state and federal agencies and courts

·        Manage litigation, including the discovery production process and issuance of legal holds to preserve relevant information

·        Forecast, allocate and manage resources, including outside counsel, to meet business needs and achieve strategic goals in a timely manner

·        Professionally exercise discretion and independent judgment in day-to-day work

·        Effectively network, influence and problem solve to shape outcomes and negotiate agreements with customers/stakeholders to meet business objectives

·        Collaboratively partner with other attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, and administrative staff (and other employees in a matrixed organization) to ensure effective communication, operational excellence, and/or customer service is delivered

QUALIFICATIONS

·        Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, required

·        License to practice law in any US state or the District of Columbia, required

·        Indiana licensure required or able to obtain within 18 months from date of hire

·        At least 7 to 15 years of related legal experience, required

·        Previous regulatory or energy industry experience, required
