Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) offers an excellent opportunity for a rising senior Mechanical Engineer (Engineer IV/Utility Designer IV) to perform independent mechanical engineering work for an electric utility. You will work as an individual contributor and a project leader on a wide variety of maintenance and engineering projects allowing you to continue growing professionally in challenging assignments. Key skills include knowledge & experience with the following: Utility boilers and heat recovery systems
Large power plant rotating equipment pumps, fans, blowers, turbines & compressors
Piping systems and codes
Power plant auxiliary equipment
Westinghouse steam turbines/ GE combustion turbines
Notes: Additional abilities in Reliability Engineering, non-destructive testing, welding specifications, SAP financial / work management systems and CAD drawing systems are a plus.
Experience in the utility industry highly desirable; but transfer of comparable skills across industries will be considered.
The minimum requirements for an Engineer IV are: Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited educational institution and six (6) years of experience as a mechanical engineer with coal fired steam electric units and industrial gas turbines for power generation. Appropriate co-op time and/or an advanced degree in engineering, business or other relevant courses (e.g. planning, public administration, etc.) of study may be recognized for up to one year of experience. A valid Florida Driver's License is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
