The General Engineer assists the Chief OISP in determining the adequacy and cost effectiveness of infrastructure and systems, determining life cycle of infrastructure components, changes in technology, industry practices, regulatory requirements and unanticipated emergencies, as well as interpreting and applying various engineering processes and methods. Using knowledge of gas and electric distribution automation equipment analyzes and advises on reliability enhancements that the utilities could derive from deploying these technologies. The incumbent provides review and analysis for the 21 approved feeder projects of the DDOT/Pepco DC Power Line Undergrounding program. Reviews the technical aspects of the natural gas pipeline vintage mechanical coupling replacement and encapsulation program and advises on the adequacy and sufficiency of Verizons maintenance of copper systems in the era of broadband and FIOS. Identifies enabling gas and electric distribution technologies that add resiliency to the utility system resulting in an improved customer experience
