Deputy General Counsel

This position is located in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) of the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia (Commission). The Commission oversees the utility and competitive companies that provide natural gas, electricity, and telecommunications services to District of Columbia ratepayers. The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for all legal issues involving the day-to-day operations of the Commission, as well as a broad spectrum of issues that relate to the Commissions regulatory responsibilities. OGC represents and advises the Commission on all actions and proceedings set forth in the enabling statue or any or legislation. The staff of attorneys prepares orders, advisory memoranda, and assists the Commissioners in conducting al proceedings of the Commission.

Duties of the Deputy General Counsel include, but are not limited to:
Supervising the attorneys and support staff to ensure that long and short-term goals of the office are met;
Approving travel, leave, and work schedules;
Reviewing attorney work product;
Providing expert advice (oral and written regarding case precedent, statutory construction, administrative procedures, and litigation, as necessary);
Writing orders, briefs, or memoranda on any matters pertaining to the work of the Commission;
Performing duties in the absence of the General Counsel, as well as other tasks as assigned.
