Electrical Engineer - Energy Supply/Utility Design Engineer IV



Gainesville Regional Utilities, the 5th largest municipal electric utility in Florida, seeks an Energy Supply Engineer IV/Utility Design Engineer IV who will perform high level, independent, professional and technical electrical l engineering work. The successful candidate will be required to support a wide variety of engineering projects, both as an individual contributor and as a project leader and effectively represent GRU to numerous outside entities.


To be considered for this position you must have a bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET accredited educational institution and at least 6 years experience as an electrical and controls engineer with coal fired steam electric units and industrial gas turbines for power generation.



The ideal candidate will possess:


Experience with the design, installation, commissioning/startup of the ABB/Bailey DCS for steam electric generating station applications.
Extensive knowledge of ABB/Bailey Infi-90/Symphony DCS implemented with:
Loop PCU Module Block DCS topology
Composer Programming Software
Bridge Controllers in redundant configuration
Rack I/O, Harmony Block I/O or S800 I/O subsystems
Conductor VMS or 800xA/PPA System Operator Consoles
A demonstrated ability to create, monitor, modify and tune the ABB/Bailey DCS control logic diagrams using the Composer software platform.
The ability to create, modify and implement graphics of the 800xA / PPA Operator Console or Conductor VMS Operator Consoles using Composer.
Demonstrated experience with ABB Symphony DCS gas turbine controls and ABB Symphony DCS steam turbine controls.
Strong knowledge of protective relaying systems for large generators and plant auxiliary systems and NERC regulations.
Strong knowledge of:
480-volt and 4160-volt electric motors in industrial plant applications.
480-volt motor control centers and 4160-volt breakers and switchgear.
Electric drives, motor operators and positioners for valves and dampers.
Instrumentation for steam electric generating stations.
The operation and maintenance of field control elements and their relation to control logic.
480-volt and 4160-volt cable systems for steam electric generating stations.
Transformers (single and 3 phase)
Yokagowa Smart Transmitters
Pneumatic Transmitters and Controllers
Demonstrated experience with GE Mark V Gas Turbine Controls with HMI
Demonstrated experience with TCSA DGC (Digital Generator Controller) Generator Voltage Regulator for rotating brushless exciters on Westinghouse steam turbine generators
Familiarity with B&W / BHA SQ-300 Precipitator automatic voltage controls
Experience with rack-mounted servers which includes installation, maintenance and support.
Knowledge and understanding of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, as well as Root Cause Failure Analysis Methodology.
Good organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to solicit input and support of others at various levels in an organization.
Experience managing the following:
Contractors (and working with the various journeyman crafts)
All phases of system improvement projects from design through construction to acceptance testing.
Capital projects, to include design review, writing job specifications, review of bids, selection of contractor, execution of project, commissioning of project, and facilitation of training as required.

Allen Bradley PLC-5 with RS-Logix 5/5000 software
Allen Bradley ControLogix PLC with RS-Logix 5000 software
Wonderware Intouch HMI
Spectrum Model 300 CEMS
SEL protective relaying.



Qualifications for Engineer/Utility Designer I ($48,591.00 $72,572.00)

Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited educational institution.

Qualifications for Engineer/Utility Designer II ($53,451.00 - $79,828.00)

Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited educational institution and two (2) years of experience as an electrical and controls engineer with coal fired steam electric units and industrial gas turbines for power generation. Appropriate co-op time and/or an advanced degree in engineering, business or other relevant courses (e.g. planning, public administration, etc.) of study may be recognized for up to six months of experience. Valid State of Florida Engineer-in-Training ( EI/FEIT) certificate may be required.


Qualifications for Engineer/Utility Designer III ($58,795.00 - $87,811.00)

Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited educational institution and four (4) years of experience as an electrical and controls engineer with coal fired steam electric units and industrial gas turbines for power generation. Appropriate co-op time and/or an advanced degree in engineering, business or other relevant courses (e.g. planning, public administration, etc.) of study may be recognized for up to one year of experience. Valid State of Florida Engineer-in-Training certificate (EI/FEIT) may be required. Valid State of Florida Professional Engineers (PE) license preferred
