Join a highly specialized team of electrical engineers and help us optimize the performance of protective relaying schemes for our 138kV and 46kV High Voltage Distribution (HVD) power system.

You’ll utilize an advanced knowledge of three phase AC power system theory, modeling, design and operations to lead a team of engineers/analysts who analyze the HVD fault operations and validate the correct performance of the protective relay schemes. This role will supports the specification, design, construction and 24/7 operation of Consumers Energy's HVD electric power system for over 1.8 million customers in lower Michigan.

Scope of responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing system fault incidents both in near real time and after the fact for validating proper system protection performance
  • Making monitoring recommendations to insure acceptable system monitoring in support of HVD capacity, customer, and reliability capital projects
  • Establishing monitoring standards, specifying the monitoring systems and using its output to validate correct relay operations
  • Providing analysis to reduce customer minutes and providing engineering support with a detailed sequence of disturbance events to best facilitate a quick system restoration and cost effective repair

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; PE designation is preferred
  • A thorough understanding of complex power system performance, operations, and protection and control schemes
  • Skills in data and database handling, analysis and interpretation is preferred
  • Familiarity with one-line, schematic and detailed electrical drawings is a plus
