Help us assess HVD lines, operated at 46 kV and above, to maintain optimal reliability and performance!
Responsible for maintaining a safe and reliable distribution system, you will utilize the expanding smart grid data, along with existing data sources, to enhance decisions surrounding high voltage distribution lines (46 kV and higher) reliability and accommodate capital spend goals by identifying prudent and cost effective solutions to enhance the reliability of the electric system. This will include monitoring the health of HVD lines and associated equipment to ensure adequate reliability and performance.
Among your typical duties, you will:
- Recommend, provide advice, initiate, and oversee line maintenance programs, including the development andpiloting of new maintenance procedures
- Administer and monitor the HVD pole inspection and motor operated switch testing programs, analyze the results, and schedule needed repairs
- Evaluate, monitor, and ensure the reliability of other HVD line equipment including conductor, lightning arresters, insulators, cross arms, shield wires, and other supporting hardware
- Utilize inspection and outage data to develop, justify, and propose short-term and long-term HVD line improvement and equipment replacement projects to meet compliance, planning criteria, customer needs, and reliability goals
- Oversee initiated capital and O&M projects, including schedule, cost, and scope while interfacing with various areas.
- Respond as needed in storm situations to help reduce HVD outages and outage duration
Qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering; power option preferred; Professional Engineering license is preferred
- 2 years of applicable engineering experience
- Good communication and customer relations skills, with demonstrated ability to work with all levels of the organization
- Must be self-motivated, organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
- Must have a valid drivers license; regular travel within Michigan is required; some overnight and out-of-state travel is also required
This position is located in Kalamazoo, Michigan although a location within the responsibility area of West Michigan may be considered.
