Carolyn L. Green - Chair of the Board of Directors (2008-2010)

Carolyn L. Green is Vice President, Health, Environment and Safety (HES) Regulatory Affairs, for Sunoco, Inc. with responsibility for strategic HES policy and issue management, product stewardship, and corporate security. She joined Sunoco in August 2000 from Azurix, a worldwide water services company, where she was Vice President for Government and Regulatory Affairs, which included public sector strategic origination.

Prior to joining Azurix, Ms. Green served as director of Government & Public Affairs for Ultramar Diamond Shamrock (UDS) Corp. from 1992-1999. UDS was one of the nation’s largest independent petroleum refining/marketing companies.

Ms. Green has extensive environmental and energy experience, serving as Environmental Affairs manager for Southern California Gas Company and deputy executive officer for the South Coast Air Quality Management District. As a planner with the California Air Resources Board, she served on the team that developed the air quality management planning process for California.

From 1992-96, Ms. Green represented the City of Los Angeles on the Board of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, serving as vice chair. She also served on the Board of Commissioners of the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, the nation’s largest municipal utility district. As president of the Commission, Ms. Green led the Department as it prepared for de-regulation of California’s electric utility industry and negotiated a settlement to the 20-year Mono Lake water rights litigation. She also spent 10 years on the Board of the California League of Conservation Voters.

Ms. Green graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in Music and was a HUD Urban Studies Fellow in the Graduate Program in Urban & Regional Planning at Iowa.

Ms. Green serves as Environmental Committee Chair for the National Petrochemical and Refining Association (NPRA), the national trade group representing the petroleum refining and petrochemical industry, and as Chair of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE). She is the 13th Chair of AABE and the 3rd female to lead the organization.

Ms. Green and her husband, Michael Blakeney, live in Bryn Mawr, PA.
