Chapter Committees

Volunteers are needed to support the following AABE Michigan Chapter Committees:

  • Public Policy - The Public Policy Committee is responsible for vision and insight on energy issues and their impact on the African-American community and for providing such information to the Association, where appropriate. This committee is also responsible for developing contacts with legislators to advocate the Chapter’s concerns about energy issues in the community and the nation. Provides quality meetings for the membership to develop personally and professionally.
  • Turner Golf (Fundraising) - Hosts the George C. Turner Annual Golf Tournament; the proceeds fund our annual scholarships.
  • Membership - The Membership Committee directs all activities of the Chapter concerned with the recruitment and maintenance of members. The committee receives and processes all applications for membership, including reinstatements, and notifies the membership of all such applications upon submission to the National Association and the local chapter. The Membership Committee is also responsible for preparing membership packages for prospective members and representing the Chapter at various events where there are opportunities to present benefits of the Chapter to the public. In addition, they assist members with information on the Chapter and inform members of upcoming events and opportunities in the energy industry.
  • Communications - The Committee provides members with information on available training and opportunities for their personal and professional development. The Communications Committee is also responsible for management of the AABE Michigan and MSU Chapter websites.
  • Education/Scholarship - Awards local Michigan graduating high school seniors with energy related awards to be presented at the Lewis H. Latimer Scholarship Awards Event.
  • Lewis H. Latimer – The Lewis H. Latimer Committee is the committee which plans, organizes and implements the annual event. Named after the historic African-American inventor, the Lewis H. Latimer Awards Dinner itself is the forum where we present the awards to someone in the community that has shown outstanding public service and recognize the scholarship winners.
