On behalf of the Virginia Chapter of The American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE), I welcome you to our Chapter website. The Chapter was established in 2011 to serve as a resource for policy discussions in the energy industry, including utilities, trade associations, agencies, universities, consulting firms, and entrepreneurs.

Focus Areas

Community Outreach, Legislative Issues & Public Policy, Membership Focus and Recruitment, Professional Development, Programs, and Student Relations

2017 Goals

  • Issue more scholarships to deserving high school students by increasing our fundraising activities
  1. NCAA 2017 Bracket Challenge
  2. Bowl-a-thon
  3. First Annual Charity Golf Tournament
  • Provide new professional/leadership development opportunities to our members by
  1. recruiting more first time chairs and/or committee members 
  2. develope an Advisory Group to support the Chapter President
  • Improve upon how we communicate and/or share information to our members by
  1. expanding on social media (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter...etc)
  2. updating chapter website
  3. utilizing other marketing channels (i.e. livestream, quarterly newsletter...etc) to keep our members current on chapter news and events.  
  • Extend our community outreach program to include partnering with
  1. the Central Virginia core hunger-relief organization, FEEDMORE,
  2. the local Salvation Army's Angel Tree program to assist families enduring hardships.
  3. local non profits and/or church groups in providing business clothes to the underprivileged youths
  • Expand our Student Relations efforts in promoting STEM education to
  1. high school students (i.e. STEM-U-Link Career Exploration Fair, Mission Tomorrow, BEAM...etc)
  2. college students (i.e. mock interviews, mentoring, resume building...etc.)
